Laundry Services

At Riverside House Care Home, we have our own laundry facilities to provide the residents with a basic laundry service. Our laundry service provides clean clothes for our residents and we do our best to ensure quality work.

All clothes which go to the laundry have to be name-labeled and we purchase “Cashes” woven name tapes which are sewn onto all clothes. When taking in new items of clothing, please ensure that you give them to a member of staff so that they can be labeled and marked on the inventory before going to the resident's room.

Outings / Social Events

Fortunately, due to our location in the centre of Wick, local amenities are not far from the door. The residents are able to pop along the street for a coffee or perhaps lunch out. We encourage the residents to participate in or attend activities outside of the home if they are able and even to do voluntary work if they so wish.

We organise trips in the summer months through the lovely Caithness county. The annual Wick gala parade passes by the front of our home and the residents can enjoy watching the local community festival. Every year the Gala queen and her attendants visit the home to give a display of Scottish dancing and country music.

Please feel free to take your relatives/friends out, maybe for lunch or for a drive in the car. There are also several pleasant walks alongside the nearby river.

Caithness is rich in natural scenery and beauty. We are near to the Heritage Centre, which gives a good insight into Old Wick.

TVs / Radios / Reading

There is a TV in each of the home's day rooms. We understand that some residents may find TV unacceptable but all residents can return to their own rooms for ‘quiet time’ or to pursue their own interests.

Residents can have their own television in their rooms but must be provided by themselves. Having a radio or a music system in their own room is also something that many residents greatly appreciate, though the home itself does not provide such items.

Some residents are entitled to taped newspapers and books this can be organised through the local newspaper office and library. They can be a real bonus for the partially sighted.

Activities

Our activities team carry out one-to-one and group activities 7 days a week.  They deliver a varied plan each week including reminiscence, multi-generational, music dance, games & quizzes to name a few.  Local musicians and dancers come in to perform and we have locals come in to do slide shows etc.
